The Tangent Elementary School Around the World Color Run fundraiser was today. The combined fun/fundraising event benefited the school Parent Teacher Club.
Students walked or ran around the school track and participated in several obstacles along the way. A “color zone’ consisted of adult volunteers who threw non-toxic colored powder on the students as they passed. The color zone could be bypassed if students did not wish to go through it. Students and staff participated and South Albany High School Leadership students assisted in the event.
1st grade began the Stellaluna Language Arts lessons this month and Mrs. Nelson jump started the lessons in a big way by dressing the part to get her students excited!
“When Stellaluna is separated from her mother before she is old enough to fly, she finds out that not all winged creatures eat fruit. Swallowing food that crawls is just one of the many amazing things this little fruit bat must learn to do.”
Students will think about friendships and lessons learned in this beautiful story. They will think about themselves and when they learned the meaning of friendship. They will also learn to write narratives from beginning to end using common vocabulary in recounting their story.
